Solid Glass Protection for Rough Seas
The 34z Express offers an alternate styling with the opportunity to provide additional solid-glass protection for rougher water, higher speed operation while still have the flexibility to open up the sides, back and windshields for optimum control of ventilation. Apart from the design of these pilothouse side windows, the Downeast and Express models are alike.
There are other reasons why some owners prefer the Express. One is the
accessibility of the handrail on the arched portion of the window. It's
easier to grab when getting up on or off the boat amidships. Also, for
those with small children, the Express provides more security if the kids are
climbing on the pilothouse settees with the side curtains rolled up. And, for
kids working their way forward on the deck, the curved window handrail offers
them something at their height to hold onto between the aft corner post and the
bowrail. It should also be noted that we have, as a special option,
extended the bowrail further aft to just forward of the midships cleat.

A Great Family Boat
“Called "one of the most imaginative and well-thought-out boats
seen in some time" by Motorboating magazine, the 34Z (drawn by
Doug Zurn at Zurn Yacht Design) is Bob Johnstone's venture into
powerboats after his extremely successful J-boat line of
sailboats. Using a high-tech, pre-preg, vacuum-bagged oven-postcure,
epoxy/Kevlar/E-glass/Corecell construction method combined with
high-quality joinery and thoughtful systems implementation, Boston
Boat Works has manufactured 34Z's since July 2008.
